Celebrations at the Planet OMEGA exhibition continued on Tuesday, as Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber were welcomed to the showcase in New York. Following last week’s Opening Night event at the Chelsea Factory, Cindy and Kaia were the latest special guests to walk through the doors, representing two generations of OMEGA ambassador.
Planet OMEGA brings the Swiss brand’s renowned watchmaking history to life, with a display of iconic timepieces from past and present. Open until November 19, it’s a chance to experience OMEGA’s rich DNA, with six unique areas dedicated to Sport and Olympic Games, Space, Ocean, James Bond, Friends, and Precision.
The legendary fashion model, Cindy Crawford, became OMEGA’s very first ambassador in 1995. She has remained a close part of the brand’s family ever since then, having attended numerous events across the world, while also appearing in some of the most recognised advertising campaigns – particularly for its Constellation collection, for which she has become a recognisable face.
Speaking in New York, she said. “I’ve been with Omega for almost 30 years. It’s a brand I really value, and we’ve experienced so many different things together over the years. This exhibition is a great reminder of OMEGA’s incredible journey. I feel quite proud that we’ve grown together, and always been able to support each other in our passions.”
Following in her mother’s famous runway footsteps, Kaia Gerber has brought her own youthful energy and style to the fashion world. Having grown up with OMEGA, it was only natural that Kaia would join the OMEGA ambassador family, which she did in 2017.
She said, “OMEGA watches have been part of my life from the very start. I’ve always loved their quality and the expressive designs they create, but also the impact they’ve had outside of watchmaking, whether that’s going to the moon or timing the Olympics. It’s a joy to be part of this iconic brand.”
Both Cindy and Kaia were part of a panel discussion during their visit to Planet OMEGA, as they spoke about their careers, as well as their connection to OMEGA and time. It was also a chance to reflect on their first OMEGA experience together in 2014, when they travelled to Peru for the filming of The Hospital in the Sky – an OMEGA documentary about Orbis International and its fight against blindness.
The Planet OMEGA exhibition is filled with watches and stories from across the decades. Some of the highlights to see up close include the OMEGA wristwatch worn by Elvis Presley as well as the OMEGA Slimline timepiece worn by John F. Kennedy at his presidential Inauguration Ceremony in 1961.
The exhibition will remain open to the public from November 10 – 19, from Monday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm, at the Chelsea Factory, 547 W 26th Street. Visitors are encouraged to book their place in advance.
